LJMU Bursary

For each academic year, you will receive about 580 EUR per year (£500) as a lump sum that you will never have to repay. Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) pays this amount automatically to students from low-income households, and you are free to spend it as you wish.

Who can apply

• University: You’re studying at Liverpool John Moores University.
• Residence: Under the residence rules for state-funded study, you are considered a ‘domestic’ student from the United Kingdom.
• Household income: Your annual household income is £25,000 or less.
• Tuition fees: You pay the full annual tuition fee charged by LJMU (£9,250 in 2023/24).
• Field of study: Any subject.

How to apply

No application is required. The grant is paid out automatically each year to all eligible students. Simply have your household income assessed by the relevant student finance body, such as Student Finance England, so that LJMU knows you meet the criteria.

How realistic are your chances?

This is not a competition. There are no places to be awarded and no selection process. If your household income is £25,000 or less and you meet the residency and fee eligibility criteria, you will receive the scholarship automatically. The only thing you need to be aware of is that your income will be checked as part of the student finance process so that LJMU can confirm that you meet the eligibility criteria.
