What you get

The State of Vorarlberg awards grants for academic work with a clear link to Vorarlberg in Austria. This includes research projects, academic events and printing costs for publications. The grant serves to offset the shortfall: it covers part of the gap remaining after all other income has been deducted. It covers a maximum of one third of this shortfall, up to a sum of 500 euros, with the exact amount depending on the importance of the work to the province. The Department for Science and Further Education of the Vorarlberg Provincial Government is responsible for awarding the funding.

Who can apply

• Who you are: You are researchers, including early-career researchers. This is not a scholarship for students.
• Vorarlberg link: Your work must have a clear connection to Vorarlberg, whether through its subject matter or through your personal connection to this federal state. This is the most important requirement.
• Field of study: Open to all disciplines.
• Nationality and residence: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. You do not need to live in Vorarlberg, provided that your professional activities or you personally have a connection with this federal state.
• No profit: Your project or publication must not generate more revenue than it costs. Only projects that operate at a loss are eligible for funding.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is narrowly defined: your work must have a genuine connection to Vorarlberg and involve a shortfall, meaning that only a few people meet the criteria. If your research or publication clearly aligns with the region’s interests and you submit your application before you begin, your prospects are good. Please note that the grant covers a maximum of one third of your shortfall and no more than 500 euros; it therefore serves more as a top-up to your budget than as full funding.
