About this scholarship
What the Dr Heinrich Jörg Foundation grant gives you
You will receive a one-off grant of up to 1,500 EUR to fund research work at the Faculty of Natural Sciences (NAWI) at the University of Graz in Austria. For the 2026/2027 round, the Foundation is awarding a total of 7,000 EUR. There is no fixed monthly payment. The funds cover specific research costs and may be used in the years 2026 and 2027. Typical uses include travel and accommodation costs for a research trip or an academic event, a visiting stay in Graz as part of a joint project, or the writing and publication of an academic paper. You may not use the grant to pay yourself for your own working hours.
Who can apply
- Where the research happens: Your work must be related to the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the University of Graz.
- Field of study: Natural sciences only.
- Who you are: You teach at a natural sciences institute in Graz, are studying at this faculty, or are visiting Graz as an external researcher as part of a joint project.
- Students: You have above-average academic results and at least one letter of recommendation from a university lecturer.
- Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. External researchers must apply via a member of academic staff at the University of Graz.
- Purpose: You wish to fund a specific research project, a visiting scholarship or an academic thesis, and have submitted a breakdown of costs. You have no further funding available for these costs.
How to apply
Please submit your complete application documents electronically to the Chair of the Foundation Committee by 20 March. The documents must include an informal letter of application, your CV, a list of publications, a detailed project description and a breakdown of costs.
How realistic are your chances?
This funding scheme is narrowly defined: it exclusively funds research projects linked to the Faculty of Natural Sciences in Graz, meaning that the pool of eligible applicants is small. With a total budget of 7,000 EUR and up to 1,500 EUR per application, only a handful of grants are awarded per round. If you meet the Faculty’s requirements and submit a clear, well-costed project (and, as a student, can also demonstrate good academic performance and provide a reference), your prospects are good.
