About this grant / loan
Support scholarship (Academy of Fine Arts Vienna)
You will receive 300 EUR per month for 12 months as a grant towards your living costs whilst studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. The money comes from the Academy’s support fund, which is replenished each year with the proceeds from the Academy’s annual art auction. The Academy maintains this fund to enable students who are unable to cover their living costs to continue their studies.
Who can apply
- University: You are studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, either on a diploma, bachelor’s or master’s degree programme.
- Field of study: Every subject taught at the academy.
- Residence status: You come from a country outside the European Economic Area (neither an EU Member State nor Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland or the United Kingdom). You are also eligible if you are stateless, have been recognised as a refugee or are entitled to subsidiary protection. Exchange students, holders of a ‘Red-White-Red Card’ and persons with dual nationality of an EEA state are not eligible to apply.
- Financial need: Your income is not sufficient to cover your living expenses, and you can provide evidence of this, for example, by showing your bank statements for the last three months.
How to apply
Applications are made online via the Academy’s application system, and you’ll need to register using your student email address. The application period runs from mid-March to mid-April each year. You must submit documents such as your CV, proof of enrolment, exam certificates and a letter of recommendation from a teacher at the Academy, in which they confirm your needs, your progress and your motivation.
How realistic are your chances?
This fund is restricted in scope: only students at a Viennese art college who come from countries outside the EEA and can demonstrate a low income are eligible to apply. This means that the number of people eligible for funding remains small. If you clearly meet these criteria and a teacher is willing to put in a good word for you, your chances are good. As the money comes from an annual auction, funds are limited, so a well-documented need is more important than a polished presentation.
