Julius Raab Foundation foreign studies scholarship

You will receive a monthly scholarship for a study period abroad lasting one semester as a minimum and two semesters at most. The amount of the scholarship is not fixed in advance. It depends on the foundation’s budget and your financial circumstances, so we are unable to specify a particular amount. The scholarship is provided by the Julius Raab Foundation, which supports Austrian students undertaking stays abroad, giving priority to fields of study that are of significance to the Austrian economy.

Who can apply

• Nationality: You are an Austrian citizen.
• Study level: You are currently in the second stage of your degree programme or have just completed your degree.
• Age: You are under 30.
• Confirmed place abroad: You have a written letter of acceptance from a foreign higher education institution, stating the exact start and end dates of your stay.
• Field of study: Applicants from all disciplines are welcome to apply, although preference will be given to those in fields that are of significance to the Austrian economy.
• Grades: Your results meet the standard required for Austrian student finance.
• Recommendation: A professor from your department is supporting your application.
• Financial need: You can declare your family’s income, as well as your own and, where applicable, that of your spouse.
• No paid job during the stay: You are not working abroad or taking unpaid leave if you continue to receive your full salary.

How to apply

You should apply directly to the Foundation at least four weeks before the start of your stay abroad. There is no fixed annual application deadline, so you can apply as soon as your place has been confirmed. Please enclose a funding plan listing all other scholarships for which you have applied.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is quite narrowly defined. You must be an Austrian national who has completed the first stage of your studies, fall under the 30 category, and be going abroad with a confirmed place at a university and the support of a professor. This keeps the pool of applicants small. If you clearly meet these requirements and can demonstrate a financial need, your prospects are good. Apply well in advance, well before the four-week application deadline expires, as the amount of funding depends on the fund’s budget.
