About this scholarship
Soucek scholarship for printmaking
You will receive 5,000 EUR as well as three months’ working time in the printmaking studio at the Traklhaus in Salzburg. The running costs of the studio will be covered. You will only pay for materials such as paper and printing inks. During the workshop, you will work with techniques such as lithography, etching, woodcut and relief printing, with experts guiding you through the process. The prize is awarded by the Department of Culture of the Province of Salzburg. It is named after the Austrian painter and graphic artist Slavi Soucek and is awarded once a year.
Who can apply
- Link to Salzburg: You were born in the province of Salzburg or have lived there for at least five years.
- Field: You work in printmaking (graphic art) and want to deepen or learn printing techniques.
- Portfolio: You can exhibit your existing prints – usually between 5 and 20 works – created using various printing techniques, as well as drawings suitable for printing.
- Nationality: Applicants of any nationality are welcome to apply. What matters is your connection to Salzburg, not your passport.
- Study level: Open to artists at all stages of their careers. You do not need to be enrolled at a university.
How to apply
Please send your completed entry form and your artwork by post or in person to the Cultural Department of the Province of Salzburg. The closing date for entries is 09.05. An independent jury, which includes a representative from the Traklhaus printmaking workshop, will select the winner from the entries received and notify you of the result in writing.
How realistic are your chances?
This award has strict criteria: it is presented to a graphic artist with a genuine connection to Salzburg, which means the pool of eligible candidates is small. If you were born there or have lived there for five years and can present a compelling portfolio of printmaking, your chances are good. The jury assesses the quality of the submitted works, so what matters most is a compelling, well-curated selection.
