About this scholarship

Study Completion Grant (Studienabschluss-Stipendium)

You will receive between 873 and 1,496 EUR per month for 6 to 18 months, depending on your previous earnings. A typical student grant amounts to around 1,040 euros per month. If you pay tuition fees, you will also be reimbursed up to 363.36 euros per semester. The student grant supports working students in the final stages of their degree who wish to give up their job in order to complete their studies. These are public funds provided by the Austrian Federal Government and paid out by the Student Grant Authority. Other sources of income, such as unemployment benefit or internship pay, reduce the amount.

Who can apply

  • Nationality: You are an Austrian citizen or a foreign national or a stateless person who is treated as equivalent under Austrian law.
  • Work history: Over the last few years, you have worked at least 50% alongside your studies.
  • Quitting your job: You will give up this job for the entire duration of the scholarship so that you can concentrate fully on completing your degree.
  • Near the finish: You’ve only got a little way to go. If you’re writing a diploma or Master’s thesis, your topic must already have been finalised, and you must have no more than 20 ECTS credits’ worth of exams left to take. If you are not writing a final dissertation (e.g. a Bachelor’s dissertation), you must have no more than 40 ECTS credits remaining. If you are studying at a university of applied sciences or a university of teacher education, you must be in your final two semesters.
  • Field of study: All subjects are eligible.
  • No recent grant: You have not received any Austrian student grant over the last four years and have never received this graduation grant before.
  • Age: You are no older than 41.
  • No earlier degree: You have not already completed a degree, except for a bachelor's degree.

How to apply

You can submit your application to the scholarship authority using the official forms available at stipendium.at. You can submit your application online using ID Austria. If you meet all the eligibility criteria, you are legally entitled to the scholarship, which will be granted by means of an official decision.

How realistic are your chances?

This is not a competition. If you meet all the eligibility criteria, you are legally entitled to the scholarship, so no selection panel will compare you with other applicants. The real hurdle is the eligibility criteria themselves. These are strictly tailored to working students in the very final stage of their degree who have not received a scholarship for the past four years. If your situation clearly meets these criteria, your chances are good.
