About this scholarship
What you get
You will receive a one-off grant of up to 10,000 EUR for a research project with a clear connection to Vienna. The money does not need to be repaid. It comes from ‘Stadt Wien Kultur’ (MA 7), the City of Vienna’s Cultural Office, which supports current academic and scientific work relating to the city. The grant supports projects by graduates as well as smaller-scale research projects. It does not apply to projects that have already been completed, purely medical research or student theses (Bachelor’s, Diploma, Master’s or PhD).
Who can apply
- Where you live: Her main place of residence is in Vienna.
- Age: You are at least 18 years old.
- Qualification: You have obtained a university degree (Bachelor’s or higher) or your CV demonstrates that you have an academic background.
- Your project: It is directly linked to Vienna and ties in with current academic or social issues.
- Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
- Field of study: All topics are permitted, with the exception of purely medical research.
- What rules you out: You must not submit the same project twice. Ongoing insolvency proceedings or certain criminal convictions will also result in exclusion.
How to apply
Applications can be submitted free of charge via the City of Vienna’s online form. Projects costing up to 5,000 EUR can be submitted at any time. Projects valued at between 5,001 EUR and 10,000 EUR can only be submitted between 1 and 30 September for the following year. Applications are then assessed by expert reviewers.
How realistic are your chances?
This funding scheme is very narrowly defined. You must live in Vienna and your project must have a direct link to the city, which means the pool of applicants remains small. If you clearly meet these criteria and can present a compelling, relevant project, your chances are good. The decision is at the discretion of the assessors, so a well-justified connection to Vienna and a clear demonstration of quality are the most important factors.
