About this award / prize
Benefit
For an outstanding research or academic project, you will receive a one-off prize of 10,000 EUR. Two prizes will be awarded: one for technology and science, and one for society, culture and the future. The prize is awarded by the Eduard Wallnöfer Foundation, which is funded by the Tyrolean business community. It is a one-off prize rather than a monthly scholarship, and is therefore paid as a lump sum.
Eligibility
- Where you were born: You must have been born in Tyrol (Austria) or South Tyrol (Italy). In the case of a group application, the project leader must have been born there or the organisation must be based there.
- Age: You are no older than 40.
- Field of study: Any topic is welcome. Your project should contribute to the technical, economic, social or cultural development of Tyrol and South Tyrol.
- What you submit: A research or study project, either carried out individually or in a group.
- Degree or level: No specific qualification or degree programme is required.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted online via the contact form on the Foundation’s website. Please attach a summary of your project, of no more than five pages, as a PDF file. The summary must be anonymous and must not contain any references to the applicant, so that the jury can make an independent decision. The application period runs from the end of March to 24 August. A jury will then select the winners.
How realistic are your chances?
The eligibility criteria for this award are quite strict: you must have been born in Tyrol or South Tyrol, be under 40 years of age, and be able to present a project relevant to the region. This means that the pool of eligible applicants remains small. If you meet these criteria and can present a compelling, clearly articulated project, your chances are good. As the assessment is carried out anonymously, the quality of your project counts for more than a polished presentation or your contacts.
