About this award / prize

Robert Sinave Award

You will receive a prize of 2,480 EUR for an outstanding doctoral thesis on the subject of electricity or energy. The Royal Belgian Society of Electrical Engineers (KBVE-SRBE) awards the prize from its special Sinave Fund. It is awarded every three years. It recognises a completed doctoral thesis and is therefore a one-off prize, not a monthly scholarship. Previous winners have addressed topics such as the control of direct current grids and protection algorithms for HVDC cable networks, amongst others.

Who can apply

  • Your work: You have written an independent doctoral thesis or an equivalent academic paper on the subject of electricity and its applications, or on a broader energy-related topic such as the energy transition or renewable energy.
  • Where you studied: You graduated from a Belgian university or a Belgian technical college.
  • Age: At the time of submission, you are aged 40 or younger.
  • Language: Your dissertation is written in French, Dutch, English or German.
  • Nationality: Any nationality can apply.

How to apply

You can submit your final thesis or have someone nominate it on your behalf. A panel from the KBVE-SRBE will then select the winner. Please contact the society to find out about the current cycle and how to submit your final thesis.
