About this award / prize

Benefit

You will receive a one-off prize of 6,500 EUR for your personal use. This prize is awarded to an individual or a team of up to three people who have found a creative and relevant way of making scientific topics accessible to teachers, students, school pupils or the general public. The prize is sponsored by the Wernaers Fund, which is administered by the Fonds de la Recherche Scientifique (FRS-FNRS) in Belgium. One or more prizes are awarded each year, although the jury may also decide not to award a prize.

Eligibility

  • Where you work: You belong to a university or a long-type Haute Ecole (a higher education college) in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation of Belgium.
  • The work you submit: It must not have been published before. It must not have appeared previously, either as an article or as a book.
  • Type of work: Purely educational content, such as online courses (MOOCs), does not count. If your work consists of a website or an electronic platform, it must be freely accessible. In the case of a website, you must also provide visitor figures obtained using recognised software.
  • Field of study: All disciplines are open. Particular emphasis is placed on science policy, economics, applied economics, sociology, law, demography and statistics.
  • Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. Your project must have a connection with EU countries or French-speaking sub-Saharan Africa.
  • One entry only: You cannot apply if you have already won a Wernaers Prize. You may only submit one project per call for entries.
  • No animal testing: Projects involving animal testing will not be funded.
