About this award / prize
Ernest du Bois Doctorate Award
You will receive up to 20,000 EUR as a one-off prize, intended to help you complete your PhD and cover the costs of carrying out your doctoral research. The prize is awarded for research on the subject of water. The King Baudouin Foundation in Belgium awards it to encourage young researchers to address issues relating to water availability and to raise awareness of this topic within universities.
Who can apply
- Degree level: You are currently studying for a PhD and are still in the course of your doctoral studies. You must have been enrolled in the PhD programme in the year prior to the call for applications, and the defence of your thesis may not take place until the year following the call for applications.
- Where you study: You are defending your doctoral thesis at a Belgian university.
- Topic: Water is at the heart of your research and is by no means a secondary consideration. This may involve looking at how much water is available to people in Belgium or elsewhere, the development and protection of water resources, water pollution, or methods of water treatment.
- Track record: You have published at least one article in a peer-reviewed journal (i.e. one that has been reviewed by other experts prior to publication).
- Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, provided they are defending their final thesis at a Belgian university.
- Field of study: Any discipline is permitted, provided that water is the central theme.
