Agathon de Potter Fund grant

You will receive up to 1,000 EUR to cover the costs of attending a conference or undertaking a research trip abroad. The grant covers all or part of your travel and participation costs for a single trip. Payment is made by the Royal Academy of Sciences, Literature and Fine Arts of Belgium, which has administered this fund since 1919. There are two calls for applications per year, one in March and one in October. The grant does not cover salaries, the purchase of equipment or ongoing research costs.

Who can apply

• Who you are: You are a PhD student (in your second year of your PhD or later) or a postdoctoral researcher.
• Where you study: You are at a university in the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, the French-speaking Community of Belgium.
• Field of study: Your field of research lies within the areas of astronomy, physics, mathematics, chemistry, geology, animal biology, plant biology or microbiology.
• No permanent post: You do not hold a permanent job at a scientific institution. You are also not a PhD or postdoc on a contract abroad.
• No repeats: You did not receive this grant last year. You cannot receive it two years in a row.
• Timing: Your trip takes place within, or begins within, the period covered by the round for which you are applying.

How to apply

Please send the completed and signed application form, together with the required supporting documents, to the Secretariat of the Royal Academy of Belgium. The deadline is 15 February for the March round and 15 September for the October round. Late applications will not be considered.
