Research Induction Grant at UMONS

You will receive 1,500 EUR net for a four-week research placement at the Université de Mons in Belgium. During the placement, you will assist a PhD student at UMONS with their research and gain your first insight into academic work. The four weeks will take place between 1 July and 15 September. You may complete them as a single block or spread them over several periods. The scholarship is funded by the UMONS Research Council (CRECH). It is intended to provide additional experience alongside your studies and is not a substitute for an internship that is already compulsory as part of your degree programme.

Who can apply

• Study level: You are in the third and final year of a Bachelor’s degree programme (BAB3) at UMONS and are expected to complete it this academic year. Students who are in the preparatory year of a Master’s degree programme worth 120 credit points are also eligible to participate.
• University: You are studying at the Université de Mons.
• Field of study: Any UMONS faculty can take part, with up to 3 grants per faculty.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
• No other income: For tax reasons, you must not earn any other income from employment whilst on your work placement.
• One grant each: You can hold one grant, paired with one PhD student.

How to apply

The call for applications opens every year in November, and the deadline for applications is in mid-January. You do not apply yourself. The PhD student with whom you will be working submits the application, co-signed by the head of their department, to the Faculty Council. The Faculty Council carries out a preliminary selection, and the CRECH makes the final decision.

How realistic are your chances?

Every year, up to 12 grants are awarded at UMONS, with a maximum of 3 granted per faculty.
