About this scholarship
Fulbright scholarship for a Master's in the USA
You will receive an amount of monthly living allowance of 2,670 EUR towards accommodation and living costs, which will be paid in US dollars at the official exchange rate. The scholarship also covers your tuition fees up to a maximum of 20,000 EUR per academic year, which will be paid directly to your US university. In addition, you will receive 1,500 EUR towards your return travel costs, as well as health and accident insurance. The funding runs for 12 months and can be extended by a further 12 months, bringing the total to up to 24 months. It is offered jointly by the Fulbright Commission in Spain and the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Higher Education, with 12 scholarships awarded per round.
Who can apply
- Nationality: You are a Spanish national. If you hold both Spanish and US citizenship, you are not eligible to apply.
- Residence: You live in Spain and did not live in the USA in the year prior to the start of the scholarship.
- Degree: You hold an official Spanish higher education qualification worth at least 240 ECTS credits (roughly equivalent to a four-year degree), which you obtained after 1 January 2020.
- Grades: Your average mark is at least 7 out of 10.
- Field of study: The subject area is irrelevant. You can be studying for an MA, MS, LLM or MBA degree, but only full-time programmes involving face-to-face teaching are eligible; online or part-time programmes are not considered.
- US admission: You have already started the admissions process at a US university and can provide evidence of this in your application.
- Previous experience: You have not received a Master’s scholarship abroad for more than 12 months, have not completed a PhD and are not currently undertaking postgraduate studies in the USA.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted online via the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Higher Education’s portal in Spanish by 16 February. If you pass the initial assessment of your academic records and CV, you will be invited to a face-to-face interview in Madrid lasting approximately 20 minutes, which will take place in the spring.
How realistic are your chances?
Only 12 scholarships are awarded, and they are open to Spanish graduates from all disciplines, so competition is fierce. Good grades are important, but you also need to arrange your admission to a US university months in advance and submit a convincing study plan and give a convincing interview. If you are well prepared, have secured a place at a US university and clearly meet the requirements, your chances are good.
