About this scholarship

Paralympic Sport Scholarships (Fundación Iberdrola España)

You will receive up to 5,000 EUR for one academic year as a contribution towards your tuition fees for your Bachelor’s or Master’s degree. The exact amount is between 1,250 EUR and 5,000 EUR. It depends on the number of ECTS credits you are enrolled for and the proportion of your tuition fees that you cover yourself. If you are just starting your degree or are only writing your final dissertation or Master’s thesis, the maximum amount is 2,500 EUR. You can renew the grant each year. Fundación Iberdrola España funds this grant in partnership with the Spanish Paralympic Committee (Comité Paralímpico Español) to help Paralympic athletes prepare for a career after sport.

Who can apply

  • Who it's for: You are a Spanish Paralympic athlete and are taking part in the ADOP programme (Apoyo al Deporte Olímpico y Paralímpico), the Spanish support programme for Olympic and Paralympic sport. Applications can only be made through this programme; there is no open application process for other athletes.
  • Level: You are enrolled on a Bachelor’s or a postgraduate (Master’s) programme.
  • Where you study: Your university may be in Spain or abroad.
  • Field of study: Any field of study. Previous scholarship recipients have included students of medicine, law, business administration, physiotherapy, education and engineering, amongst others.
  • Grades: If you received the scholarship last year, you will retain your priority provided your grade point average is at least 5.5 (out of 10). In the event of a tie, priority will be given to the applicant taking the more advanced course, and thereafter to the applicant with the better marks.

How to apply

Please register via the Spanish Paralympic Committee’s Athlete Support Office. You should then submit your application form together with your most recent academic transcript and your certificate of enrolment for the current academic year. The application deadline is 17 November. A joint committee comprising the Fundación Iberdrola España and the Spanish Paralympic Committee will decide on the award of the scholarships.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding scheme is very restrictive. You must be a Spanish Paralympic athlete in the ADOP programme and be studying at university, meaning that only a small group qualify each year and, as a rule, between 7 and 14 athletes receive funding. If you meet these criteria – and particularly if you have previously received the scholarship and can demonstrate a grade point average of 5.5 or higher – your chances are very good.
