About this scholarship

Traineeship in archaeological heritage restoration (Diputación de Alicante)

You will receive 800 EUR gross per month for up to 12 months. The scholarship will initially run for 6 months, and you may apply for an extension of a further 6. You will undertake your training at the Provincial Archaeological Museum of Alicante (MARQ), where you will gain practical experience in the restoration and conservation of archaeological finds. You may also be sent to museums, excavation sites and cultural institutions throughout the province. The Diputación Provincial de Alicante (the Provincial Council) funds this programme and awards two internship places each year. This is a training grant and not an employment contract; therefore, tax and your own social security contributions will be deducted.

Who can apply

  • Degree: You hold a bachelor’s degree (Grado) in the conservation and restoration of cultural heritage, or a higher qualification in this field from an Escuela Superior de Conservación y Restauración.
  • Recent graduate: You completed your degree no more than 5 years ago.
  • Nationality: You are a Spanish national (subject to certain exceptions under Spanish civil service regulations).
  • Residence: You live in the province of Alicante. If your degree programme is not offered at any university in this province, it is sufficient that you were living there before you started your studies.
  • Not a repeat: You have not yet completed this restoration work placement at MARQ.
  • No double funding: You are not currently receiving any other scholarship and are not engaged in any other paid work in the same field.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the Provincial Council’s electronic portal (Sede Electrónica) or in person at its advice centre in Alicante. The deadline is 15 working days after the publication of the call for applications in the Provincial Gazette (BOP). Selection will be made through a competitive process. A committee will assess your qualifications and additional credentials, then publish a provisional ranking list with a period for lodging appeals, and subsequently draw up a final ranking list. In the event of a tie between two candidates, the higher average mark will be decisive.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is granted to very few applicants: only two places are available each year, and applicants must hold a specific qualification in the field of restoration, have recently completed their degree and live in the province of Alicante. This keeps the pool of applicants small, meaning that a well-suited candidate has a genuine chance of success. Selection is based on academic results and additional qualifications; therefore, a strong academic record, along with relevant courses or Master’s credits, is crucial for moving up the rankings.
