Museo del Prado - Grants for Research in the Museo del Prado

Benefit

You will receive a total of 36,000 EUR, paid out as 3,000 EUR per month over 24 months. The Museo Nacional del Prado in Madrid funds these training grants to enable young graduates to work at the museum and build a career in the fields of art history, conservation, cultural management or digital cultural heritage. You will be supervised by museum experts and have direct access to the collections and technical resources. In the most recent call for applications, 12 scholarships were awarded in fields such as exhibition coordination, editorial work, audiovisual production and architecture. Some scholarships are funded directly by the museum, whilst others are run in collaboration with partner institutions. This scholarship cannot be combined with any other public or private scholarship or paid employment.

Eligibility

• Degree: You must hold a bachelor’s degree (or an equivalent qualification) in the subject area for which you wish to apply, for example in the humanities, art history, philology, film studies or architecture. Doctorates and postgraduate degrees do not qualify you to apply.
• Recent graduate: You obtained your qualification after January 2020.
• Nationality: You are a national of Spain, another EU country or an EEA country, or you are resident in Spain at the time the scholarship begins.
• Language: Your spoken and written Spanish is good enough to work at the museum.
• Grades: You have an excellent academic record.
• First time: You have not yet received a scholarship from the Museo del Prado. Scholarships for short courses run by the ‘Cátedra del Prado’ are not taken into account.

How to apply

Each call for applications is published in the Spanish Official Gazette (BOE). You must apply within the deadline specified therein, enclosing a brief project description, a letter of motivation and two academic references. The selection process takes place in several stages: first, your qualifications and your project will be assessed; subsequently, shortlisted candidates will attend a face-to-face interview with the selection panel. Part of the interview may be conducted in English to assess your language skills.

How realistic are your chances?

The scholarship selection criteria are quite narrow: applicants must hold a specific degree completed after January 2020, have a good command of Spanish, and propose a compelling project that relates to the museum’s work; as a result, there are fewer applicants competing for the places than with open scholarships. If you clearly fit into one of the advertised areas and can demonstrate the relevant academic achievements, your prospects are good. The project description and the interview carry significant weight, so a well-prepared, detailed application will secure you a place.
