About this scholarship

Grants for Music (Becas de Música)

You will receive a one-off grant of 6,250 EUR to fund further musical training outside a regular degree programme, such as masterclasses, courses or workshops led by renowned tutors. You may undertake these training courses anywhere in the world, enabling you to draw on specialised centres and experts abroad. The grant will be paid in two instalments: half upon approval, and the other half once you have provided evidence of how you have used the funds. The grant is provided by the Regional Government of La Rioja in Spain, which awards two music grants of this amount in each call for applications.

Who can apply

  • Where you live: You must be registered (empadronado) in a municipality in the La Rioja region. This must be the case before the application period begins and at the time of your application.
  • Age: You are under 35.
  • Field: You have a background in music.
  • Type of training: It complements your degree programme, but is not a standard university course; rather, it is, for example, a masterclass, a short course or a workshop.
  • Past grants: If you have already received one of these grants in any field, you must wait three years before you can apply again.
  • Nationality: Applicants of any nationality are welcome to apply. The key requirement is that they are registered as residents in La Rioja.

How to apply

You can apply online via the La Rioja Regional Government’s electronic portal or in person at its registration offices by 13 May 2026. You must submit a description of your training project, including the relevant budget, proof of residence in La Rioja, and a letter of recommendation from an official body or a recognised professional. Selection is based on a paper-based assessment. Applications are assessed according to criteria such as the quality of the project and your previous performance, and you must achieve at least 15 out of 30 points.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is very narrowly defined: only people aged under 35 who are registered as residents of La Rioja may apply, and only two music scholarships are awarded per round. The pool of eligible applicants is small, but as there are only two places available, competition is fierce. If you clearly meet the residence and age requirements and submit a convincing, feasible training project, your chances are good. A concrete plan with a well-justified budget and a strong recommendation is what sets applicants apart from the rest.
