Autonomous Community of Madrid - Supplementary allowances for disabled university students

What you get

You will receive a one-off payment of 330 EUR to 1,500 EUR as a contribution towards your living costs whilst you are studying, paid by the Autonomous Community of Madrid. The amount depends on your certified degree of disability: your percentage will be multiplied by a fixed rate. For a degree of disability of 33–49%, the rate is 10 EUR (i.e. 330–490 EUR); for 50–70%, it is 12 EUR (600–840 EUR), and from 70% onwards it is 15 EUR (1,050 EUR up to 1,500 EUR for a degree of 100%). You are free to use the money as you wish. You may also combine it with other public or private funding for the same purpose.

Who can apply

• Disability: You have a legally recognised disability of level 33% or higher. This also applies if you receive a social security pension on the grounds of total, absolute or severe incapacity for work, or if you have been retired as a civil servant on the grounds of permanent incapacity for work.
• Where you study: You are studying at a university in the Autonomous Community of Madrid, at an affiliated institution based there, or at a college of art in Madrid.
• Level of study: You are undertaking a Bachelor’s degree programme (Grado), a Master’s degree programme, an older official degree (Licenciado, Ingeniero, Arquitecto, Diplomado and similar), supplementary study programmes or higher artistic training. Doctoral programmes, specialisation courses and university-specific qualifications are not taken into account.
• Course load: You are enrolled for a minimum number of credit points, which depends on your degree of disability: at least 30 ECTS for 33–49%, at least 20 ECTS for 50–70%, and at least 10 ECTS from 70% onwards.
• Field of study: Any topic is fine.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. What matters is where you are studying.

How to apply

You should submit your application online or in person to the Autonomous Community of Madrid during the annual application period, which begins in the spring following the publication of the call for applications. The deadline is 15 July. There is no application fee. Applications are ranked in descending order according to the degree of disability until the budget of 300,000 EUR has been exhausted.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is aimed at a specific target group: students with disabilities at universities in Madrid. The pool of applicants is limited and the eligibility criteria are clearly defined. Places are allocated starting with the highest degree of disability until the funds are exhausted, meaning that applicants with a higher degree of disability are considered first. If you clearly meet the eligibility criteria regarding your disability and enrolment, your chances are good, and it is worth applying, as this will not exclude you from other forms of financial support.
