About this scholarship

What you get

You will receive 800 EUR gross per month for a paid work placement at the Central Library of Cantabria (Biblioteca Central de Cantabria) in Santander, northern Spain. The work placement runs until the end of the calendar year and lasts approximately 16 weeks. In exceptional cases, it may be extended for a further year. You will assist with the organisation and cataloguing of the library’s holdings and contribute to the Catalogue of Cantabria’s Bibliographic Heritage (Catalogo Colectivo del Patrimonio Bibliográfico de Cantabria). The Regional Government of Cantabria funds the scholarship through its Ministry of Culture.

Who can apply

  • Degree: You have completed a university degree in the humanities (Filosofia y Letras), information and documentation sciences, or an equivalent, recognised qualification. Qualifications in library and archive studies will also be considered.
  • Nationality: You are a national of Spain or another EU country.
  • Residence: You are resident in Cantabria at the time of the application deadline.
  • Clean record: You have never been dismissed from a public or private sector job as a result of disciplinary proceedings, and you have no outstanding tax or social security debts.
  • No double funding: You are not currently receiving any other public funding.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted by the deadline of 10 June to the Culture Department of the Regional Government of Cantabria in Santander. The selection process will take the form of an open competition. Candidates will be assessed against one another on the basis of their academic achievements and relevant professional experience.

How realistic are your chances?

This work placement is very specific: you must hold a particular university degree, be an EU citizen and be resident in Cantabria, so the pool of eligible applicants is small. Only a handful of places are available per intake. A suitable candidate with an excellent academic record and relevant experience in librarianship has good prospects. Please note that this programme was last advertised around 2015 and does not appear to be currently available.
