Autonomous Community of Cantabria - Traineeships at the Historical Archive of Cantabria

What you get

You will receive 800 EUR gross per month for a paid work placement at the Provincial Historical Archive of Cantabria (Archivo Histórico Provincial de Cantabria) in Santander, Spain. The work placement lasts 16 months. In exceptional cases, it may be extended for a further year. You will work on real archival tasks: you will sort and catalogue historical documents and learn about archival techniques. The Regional Government of Cantabria (Dirección General de Cultura) funds the programme and offers only a limited number of places – three in the first round.

Who can apply

• Degree: You hold a university degree in Philosophy and Letters, History or a similar field.
• Nationality: You are a citizen of Spain or another EU country.
• Residence: You are officially registered as a resident of a municipality in Cantabria at the time the application deadline expires.
• Clean record: You have never been dismissed by a public or private employer as a result of disciplinary proceedings.
• Prior funding: You have not yet received a regional grant from the Cantabria region for a period of two years or more.

How to apply

Applications should be submitted to the Dirección General de Cultura. The selection process is competitive and is based on your academic record: final degree mark, additional qualifications, courses taken and professional experience. The deadline for applications is 7 June.

How realistic are your chances?

This work placement is aimed at a narrowly defined group: you must live in Cantabria, hold a specific degree in the humanities and be an EU citizen; furthermore, only a limited number of places are available. This keeps the pool of applicants small, meaning that a well-suited candidate with good grades and relevant experience has a strong chance of success. Selection is based on academic merit; therefore, providing clear evidence of your qualifications and any experience in the archival sector is crucial to setting yourself apart from other applicants.
