About this scholarship
What you get
You will work for around 8 months (usually from October to May) as a Spanish language assistant at a school abroad. You’ll help pupils practise spoken Spanish alongside their teacher. In return, you’ll receive a monthly allowance of around 1,502 EUR, although the exact amount depends on the country in question. The amounts range from around 700 EUR in Malta and 850 EUR in Italy to 1,000 EUR in Germany, around 1,617 EUR in Belgium and approximately 1,870 EUR gross in Austria, where you are also fully covered by social security. In some countries, there are additional benefits: in Thailand, accommodation and health insurance are included; in Norway, a travel allowance is paid; and in Brazil, meals and transport are covered. The programme covers more than 20 host countries across five language groups (German, French, English, Italian and Portuguese). It is organised by the Spanish Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sport.
Who can apply
- Nationality: You are a Spanish citizen.
- Studies: You are in the final year of a recognised university degree programme, or you completed such a programme between 2021–22 and 2024–25. If you graduated between 2020 and 21, you will also need a Master’s degree in Spanish as a Foreign Language, Foreign Language Teaching or Teacher Training.
- Field of study: Your degree must be relevant to your chosen language group, for example German, English, Spanish, Translation or Teacher Training. If your degree subject is not the target language itself, you will generally need to have reached level B1 in that language (B2 English for the UK and New Zealand).
- Age: Depending on the country: up to 30 (e.g. the UK, France, Ireland, Italy), up to 35 (e.g. Germany, Austria, Australia, Portugal, Brazil) and no limit for Thailand.
- First time: You have not yet held a teaching assistant post on this degree programme.
- Job status: You are not a permanent teacher (funcionario docente).
- Health: You do not suffer from any medical condition that would prevent you from carrying out this job.
How to apply
You register on the Profex 2 online system, create your profile and upload your documents. These include your academic CV, a personal statement of between 200 and 300 words, a letter of reference in the target language, a Europass CV and a photograph. You then select up to two countries from the same language group. The application deadline for each academic year is 15 January. During the selection process, your qualifications will be assessed using a set points system; there will be no interview.
How realistic are your chances?
In many countries, around 921 places are offered, so this is more of an extensive programme than a single, rare award. Only Spanish nationals with specific qualifications are eligible to apply. Selection is based on a transparent points system without an interview, meaning that good academic results and language skills above the minimum level will improve your position in the rankings. If you can be clearly assigned to a language group and apply well in advance of the January deadline, your chances are good.
