Comillas study grants (Ayudas Propias)

At the Pontifical University of Comillas in Madrid, your monthly tuition fees for one academic year will be reduced. For most scholarships, the reduction amounts to approximately 60%; in exceptional cases, it may be as high as 75%. You will not receive any cash: The scholarship simply reduces the cost of your studies. The university funds this itself, in conjunction with church foundations, to help students who are capable of studying but whose family income is limited. Currently, 1,582 students are receiving one of these scholarships. The funding is valid for one academic year. You may renew it, but only by reapplying. A full exemption from tuition fees amounting to 100% is only possible through separate programmes (Becas Padre Diaz Moreno and Becas Talento Publico), not via the general scholarship.

Who can apply

• Degree level: You are currently studying or are about to start an official Bachelor’s degree (Grado) at Comillas, or at institutions such as ICADE, ICAI, CIHS or INEA. Advantere, CESAG and the Madrid Culinary Campus are not eligible, and there are separate scholarships available specifically for the Nursing and Physiotherapy degree programmes.
• Field of study: All official Bachelor’s degree programmes at participating universities, including law, economics, engineering and social sciences.
• No prior degree: If you are a new student, you must not already hold a university degree.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. International students must submit their own proof of income.
• Financial need: Your household income must remain below certain thresholds, which start at 21,707 euros for a single-person household and go up to 82,550 euros for an eight-person household; higher thresholds apply to larger families. The university also takes property and other assets into account.
• Course load: You must enrol for at least 60% credits in a standard academic year. Repeated modules are not eligible for funding, and your marks will also be taken into account.

How to apply

First-year students must apply at the same time as they apply for university admission: by 15 January 2026 for the January entrance examinations, or by 15 April 2026 for the May session. Current students must apply between 3 March and 5 May 2026. Applications submitted outside these deadlines will not be processed. You can estimate the amount of funding you are likely to receive in advance using a fee calculator on the university’s website.

How realistic are your chances?

These scholarships are tied to a specific university and are awarded on the basis of actual financial need, meaning that only Comillas students whose family income falls within the specified limits are eligible to apply. According to the university, 73% of applications are approved, which is a high proportion for a means-tested scheme. If your income is below the thresholds and you apply within the application period, your chances are good.
