About this scholarship

Archie Gittes Grant (CBA Palma de Mallorca)

You will receive a one-off grant of 5,000 EUR to visit a European city with a vibrant arts and culture scene. You will stay there to familiarise yourself with the city’s cultural life and experience a different social and artistic reality. Your stay must last at least 15 days. The grant comes from a bequest by the American painter Archie Gittes. It is awarded by the Círculo de Bellas Artes (CBA), a private, non-profit cultural organisation in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.

Who can apply

  • Where you live: Your permanent residence is in the Balearic Islands (the Spanish region comprising Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza).
  • Age: You will be between 18 and 30 years old when the jury reaches its decision.
  • Your profile: You are an artist and can exhibit your work. All artistic disciplines are welcome: drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, audiovisual art and much more.
  • Your plan: Please describe what you would like to study during your stay abroad. You also undertake to submit a report on your work afterwards.
  • Nationality: Applicants of any nationality are welcome to apply. The key requirement is that you live in the Balearic Islands.

How to apply

You should submit your application to the CBA, either on paper or online. Please include a covering letter, your CV, photographs of your work and a brief description of your plans for your stay abroad. For the last known call for applications, the deadline was 30 September. A panel appointed by the CBA reviews the applications and selects the winner.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is aimed at a small target group: you must live in the Balearic Islands, be aged between 18 and 30, and be working as an artist. Very few people apply for it. If you meet these criteria and submit a clear plan along with representative images of your work, your chances are good. Please note that the last confirmed call for applications was several years ago; you should therefore check whether a new round is currently open.
