About this scholarship
Benefit
You will receive a grant that covers at least your tuition fees at a public university, as well as an additional sum of money. The exact amount depends on your circumstances and is made up of several components. There is an income-related grant of 640 EUR, which increases to 1,700 EUR if you are in severe financial hardship. In addition, you may be eligible for a grant if you have to move away from home to study, an amount based on your grades, as well as grants for digital learning and for travel between different cities. The Basque Government funds this from an annual budget of around 28 million EUR, and every year more than 9,600 students receive this support. You can use it to study in the Basque Country or elsewhere in Spain.
Eligibility
- Where you live: Your main residence is in a municipality in the Basque Country. If this is not the case, at least one of the main breadwinners in your household must be liable for tax in the Basque Country.
- Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. If you are not a Spanish national, you must hold Spanish nationality or have lawful residence in Spain. A student residence permit is not valid.
- What you study: An official Bachelor’s degree (Grado), a Master’s degree, a 25-year university preparatory course, a degree in the arts, military sciences or theology, or credits recognised for entry to a Master’s or Bachelor’s degree programme. Independent university degree programmes, specialisation programmes and foreign university qualifications are not recognised.
- Field of study: Any subject.
- Enrolment: You will enrol on an official degree programme comprising at least 60 ECTS credits, which corresponds to the workload of one academic year of full-time study. Part-time enrolment is only permitted in exceptional circumstances.
- No higher degree yet: You do not yet hold a qualification at the same or a higher level.
- Grades: From the second semester onwards, you must pass a specified proportion of the credit points you have enrolled for: 60% in engineering and architecture, 65% in the natural sciences, 75% in the health, social, legal and humanities disciplines.
- Family income and assets: Your household income is below the specified thresholds (for example, 38,242 EUR for a four-person household), and your property assets remain within the limit.
- Disability bonus: If you have a recognised disability at level 25 to 65%, all cost components, with the exception of tuition fees, will be increased by 25%.
How to apply
You apply online and log in using a valid digital certificate. There are no paper forms and no interview. The deadline is 16 September 2026. If your degree programme starts later, you will have 5 working days after enrolment to apply, but no later than 31 December 2026.
How realistic are your chances?
Anyone who meets the criteria regarding residence, income and academic performance will receive the scholarship; there are therefore no places for which you need to apply. If you live in the Basque Country, are enrolled on an eligible degree programme and meet the income and grade thresholds, your chances are very good. The main reason for exclusion is exceeding the income or asset limits; so please check these carefully before you apply.
