About this scholarship
Benefit
You will spend a full academic year at Reed College in Portland, Oregon (USA), which lasts approximately nine months. You will receive an annual scholarship (contribution towards living costs) of approximately EUR 7,500 (USD 8,144), paid in instalments. In addition, the programme covers the majority of your annual costs: full tuition fees for one to two courses per semester, on-campus accommodation, meals, health insurance, your visa, return travel and a laptop. In return, you will work as a teaching assistant for Spanish and support the language department. You will also help organise activities at ‘Casa Hispana’, the college’s Spanish-speaking halls of residence, and be enrolled as a short-term student. Reed College runs the programme in partnership with CIEE, and it is open to students from the Universitat de Barcelona.
Eligibility
- Native Spanish: Spanish is your mother tongue. There are two job vacancies: one for a voice-over artist from Spain and one for a voice-over artist from Latin America.
- University: You are studying at the University of Barcelona or have recently graduated from there.
- Level: University graduates are welcome to apply, although preference will be given to Master’s and PhD students.
- Field of study: Open to all disciplines. A background in the humanities is preferred.
- Age: Approximately 23 to 29 years old. This is a guide, not a strict age limit.
- English: You can teach and study in English.
How to apply
Applications should be submitted by email to the Head of the International Programmes Department at Reed College. Please send a personal statement (in English) explaining why you are applying for the post, together with a letter of recommendation from a lecturer. The application deadline is 1 March.
How realistic are your chances?
This award is highly selective: only native Spanish speakers with links to the Universitat de Barcelona are eligible, and only two people are selected each year. This keeps the pool of applicants small, but the fact that there is only one place available nevertheless ensures fierce competition. If you are a Master’s or PhD student in the humanities and meet the criteria, you should write a compelling cover letter and apply well in advance.
