About this scholarship
What you get
At San Jorge University (USJ) in Villanueva de Gallego, near Zaragoza in Spain, you can receive a reduction on your tuition fees for a bachelor’s degree (Grado). This private university awards around 20 scholarships and tuition fee reductions, and more than half of its Bachelor’s students receive financial support. The two main scholarships reduce your annual tuition fees by a certain percentage:
- Excellence scholarship (Becas Excelencia): 80% A reduction in your first-year tuition fees, awarded solely on the basis of top marks. A maximum of 3 per degree programme.
- Accede scholarship (Becas Accede): 30%, 40% or 50%, depending on both your grades and your family income. Up to 50 grants, with a maximum of 5 per qualification.
When you enrol, you may also be automatically granted fee reductions (bonificaciones), for example for large families, in the case of a disability, if siblings are already studying at the USJ, or if you achieved outstanding grades at secondary school. The USJ also administers external scholarships from the Spanish Ministry of Education and the Regional Government of Aragon.
Who can apply
- Level: You are starting a Bachelor’s degree (Grado) at San Jorge University. The two main scholarships are aimed at first-year students.
- Study mode: You’re studying on campus, not via distance learning.
- Field of study: Open to all degree programmes at the university.
- Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
- Grades (Excellence): You need an average mark of at least 9 out of 10 at secondary level (Bachillerato), or a grade of 9.5 in an advanced vocational training programme (CFGS), or a grade of 9 in a previous qualification with at least 60 credits passed.
- Grades and income (Accede): You must have an average of at least 7.50 and a household income of no more than 50,000 EUR. The exact amount of the discount depends on both factors. The value of any property that is not your main residence must be less than 90,000 EUR.
- Admission step: You must have completed the university’s pre-enrolment procedure and paid the relevant fee.
How to apply
Applications are made online using the university’s scholarship forms; a separate form must be completed for each type of scholarship. There are several application rounds for each scholarship throughout the year, running from the end of February to 10 September. Applications submitted in earlier rounds are given priority, so please apply as early as possible.
How realistic are your chances?
The ‘Excellence’ scholarship is limited to 3 scholarships per degree programme and requires a near-perfect grade point average, making it very difficult to secure. The ‘Accede’ scholarship is easier to obtain if your family income is modest and you have solid grades; with up to 50 scholarships available, the pool of candidates is also larger. As places on each degree programme are allocated in the order in which applications are received, applying in the earliest round significantly improves your chances.
