About this scholarship

What you get

For each academic year completed, you will receive a one-off payment of 750 to 1,500 EUR. This is not a monthly scholarship. The University of Salzburg pays this amount as a one-off payment at the end of the year to recognise outstanding academic achievement. Every faculty awards this prize, ranging from Law and Economics to Natural Sciences and Cultural Studies, right through to Theology.

Who can apply

  • University: You are a full-time student at the University of Salzburg who is studying for an academic degree.
  • Level: Undergraduates, postgraduates and PhD students are all welcome to apply.
  • Field of study: Every subject in every faculty.
  • Nationality: You are an Austrian citizen, a national of an EEA country or stateless, and are treated as equivalent under the Austrian Student Financial Aid Act.
  • Grades: Your average mark for the past academic year is 2.00 or higher (on the Austrian grading scale, where 1 is the highest mark).
  • Timing: You are still within the standard period of study for your current stage of study, plus an additional grace semester.
  • Exam record: You meet the examination requirements set each year by your department for your subject and stage of study.

How to apply

Submit a written application to your faculty’s Examinations Office, either by post or in person. Online submissions are not accepted. The call for applications is published once a year, and the deadline is 31 October. Please check with your faculty, as dates may vary.

How realistic are your chances?

Only students from Salzburg with a very good grade point average and the relevant examination results can apply, so the pool of eligible candidates is already small. Even if you meet the requirements, you have no legal entitlement to the funding. The Dean makes the decision after consulting with an advisory board and student representatives. If you clearly meet the grade and examination criteria and apply by the deadline, you stand a real chance.
