BP Undergraduate Scholarship

You received around 5,750 EUR per year (5,000 GBP) for up to four years, amounting to a total of around 23,000 EUR (20,000 GBP) for the duration of your degree. The money covered living costs and study materials, but not tuition fees. You also took part in BP events: a welcome day in the first year, a three-day conference in the second year, the opportunity to shadow a BP trainee at work, and priority access to BP work placements and graduate roles. The programme was funded by BP (British Petroleum) in partnership with the University of Birmingham, which awarded up to 10 of these scholarships each year.

Who can apply

• University: You’re studying at the University of Birmingham.
• Study year: You are in your first year of university.
• Subject: You are studying a STEM subject (Mathematics, Computer Science, Natural Sciences or Technology, for example Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science or an engineering degree) or Business Administration or Economics.
• Nationality: Open to students from the UK, the EU and other countries.
• Grades: You achieve an average of at least 2:1 every year (results from the second year of upper secondary school).
• Other funding: You are not currently in receipt of any other company scholarship worth more than 1,500 GBP per year.

How to apply

The university contacted the eligible students during the first semester of their first year of study. They completed an online form, took an online aptitude test and a questionnaire to assess their situation, and subsequently attended a face-to-face interview at BP.
