All Saints Educational Trust individual award

You will receive financial support for your training or further qualification as a teacher of religious education or home economics (nutrition and textiles). The Trust does not specify a fixed amount. The amount of funding is determined on a case-by-case basis and may extend over several years, for example, for the entire duration of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programme. The funding is intended to supplement other sources: you must first apply for government grants and scholarships, and the Trust will make up the shortfall if these do not fully cover your costs. The funding comes from a Church of England charity which has been supporting teachers of religious education and home economics for over 40 years.

Who can apply

• Nationality: You are a British citizen.
• What you study: Your degree programme is in religious education or home economics (nutrition and textiles). Other subjects, social work or youth work, as well as training to become a member of the clergy, are not eligible for funding.
• Your goal: You are training to become a qualified teacher in the UK. Or you are already teaching and would like financial support for your professional development or for postgraduate action research that will improve your teaching.
• Where you study: Your degree was awarded by a British university or a comparable accredited institution.
• Financial need: You really do need help. You won’t receive any support if you can pay for it yourself or with public funds.

How to apply

You can apply online via the Trust’s portal, which opens in January. If you are a trainee teacher who has already been admitted to a degree programme, please apply by 27 March. All others should apply by 1 September at 5, including those seeking an additional qualification, teacher training or CPD (Continuing Professional Development, i.e. professional development whilst in employment). You will need your letter of offer and professional references.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is intended for a very limited group of people. You must be a British citizen, be undertaking a course of study or teaching specifically in the subjects of religious education or home economics, and be able to demonstrate a genuine financial need; as a result, the pool of eligible applicants is small. If you clearly meet these criteria and can demonstrate that state funding leaves a gap in your finances, your chances are good. Apply early, particularly before the March 27 round if you are a trainee teacher.
