About this scholarship
Peter J. Braam Scholarship at Oxford
You will receive a full scholarship worth about 24,000 EUR per year. Your tuition fees will be covered in full, and you will also receive a living allowance equal to the UKRI minimum for PhD students (2025/26: £20,780 per year). The funding covers the entire fee-paying duration of your studies. Merton College, University of Oxford, awards the scholarship in conjunction with the Clarendon Fund; only one scholarship is awarded each year. The funds come from a donation by Dr Peter Braam to support research that improves people’s well-being.
Who can apply
- Level: You are applying for a degree programme at the University of Oxford (Master’s or PhD).
- Subject: Your degree programme must focus on global wellbeing or humanitarian issues, such as international development, global health, economics, politics or social sciences with this focus.
- College fit: Merton College generally accepts students onto its degree programme.
- Nationality: Anyone can apply, whether they are from the UK (domestic applicants) or from abroad (international applicants).
How to apply
You do not need to submit a separate scholarship application. Simply submit the standard application form for postgraduate study at the University of Oxford for your chosen programme by the deadline in January, and you will automatically be considered. If you are offered a place, you will also be offered a place at Merton College, even if you originally applied to a different college.
How realistic are your chances?
Only one scholarship is awarded each year, and it is tied to a specific topic; consequently, the pool of applicants is small and the competition is fierce. If your degree programme clearly aligns with the focus on ‘global wellbeing’ and your application for the Master’s programme is compelling, you stand a good chance. A vague connection to the topic is not sufficient. Please submit your application to Oxford well in advance of the January deadline.
