About this scholarship

The Thomas Scholarship

You will receive a total of about 5,800 EUR (£5,000), which will be paid out in equal instalments at the start of each academic year. The scholarship is awarded by the Slade School of Fine Art at University College London (UCL) and will support you whilst you are studying Fine Art at this university.

Who can apply

  • University: You are studying Fine Art at the Slade School of Fine Art, which is part of UCL in London.
  • Degree level: You are studying for a Bachelor’s degree (BA or BFA) or a Master’s degree (MA or MFA) in Fine Art.
  • When: You have just been offered a place at university and will be starting in the coming academic year. Students who are already enrolled cannot claim this place at a later date.
  • Nationality: You are welcome to apply, regardless of your nationality.
  • How you are chosen: Scholarships are awarded on the basis of your score in the interview. For postgraduate places, financial need is also taken into account.

How to apply

You do not need to submit a separate scholarship application. Simply apply via UCL for your course at the Slade, attach a portfolio, and then go through the portfolio review and interview. All eligible applicants will be considered automatically. The Slade may contact you to ask you to complete an additional funding form.

How realistic are your chances?

Only applicants to Slade Fine Art are eligible to win this prize, so the pool of applicants is small. The key factors are a strong performance in the interview and a demonstrated financial need at postgraduate level. If your portfolio and interview are convincing and you meet the criteria, your chances are good, even though places are limited.
