Robert Marchant String Scholarship

You will receive about 345 EUR for one year to study a string instrument at University of Hull in the UK. The term ‘string instruments’ here refers to the violin, viola, cello or double bass. The scholarship was established thanks to a donation from Robert Marchant, who founded the University’s Department of Music and taught there from 1947 to 1979.

Who can apply

• Instrument: You play a string instrument such as the violin, viola, cello or double bass.
• University: You’re studying music at the University of Hull.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.

How to apply

Applications to the University of Hull must be submitted by 15 January.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is very specific: you have to be studying music at a particular university and play a string instrument, which is why very few people apply for it. If you clearly meet these criteria, your chances are quite good, even though the grant amount is modest and the number of places is limited.
