About this scholarship

What France Excellence gives you

You get a monthly living allowance of about 700 EUR for a master's degree or about 1,050 EUR for a doctorate. The scholarship also pays your tuition fees and one return flight between Korea and France. It covers a master's or doctoral programme at a French university or grande école (a selective higher-education institution outside the main university system). You also get help with your move, help with paperwork, and access to an alumni network. The French Embassy in Korea runs the programme with Campus France, and the French foreign ministry funds it.

Who can apply

  • Nationality: You are a citizen of the Republic of Korea.
  • Degree level: You are starting a master's degree (first or second year) or a doctorate at a French state university or grande école. A doctorate jointly supervised by a French and a foreign university (cotutelle) counts too.
  • Where you study: You will study in France, starting in September of the funding year.
  • Field of study: Any subject can apply. Engineering, natural sciences, economics, humanities and social sciences get priority.
  • Language: Your programme can be taught in French or in English.

How to apply

You apply online through the Campus France Korea website. Your documents are checked first. If you are shortlisted, you are invited to an interview at the Institut français in Korea. The deadline falls in spring or early summer; in 2025 it was 1 June.

How realistic are your chances?

Only about ten scholarships are awarded each year, so competition is real. But the field is small: only Korean citizens starting a French master's or doctorate can apply. A strong academic record and a clear study plan matter, especially in the priority fields like engineering and the sciences. If you fit the profile and prepare well for the interview, your prospects are realistic.
