Benefit

The state of Vorarlberg (Austria) awards up to EUR 2,500 per academic year to financially needy students. The exact amount depends on your family's income: the lowest income bracket gets the full EUR 2,500; higher brackets step down to a minimum of EUR 750. Students who must rent a room at their place of study, and those who have been fully financially independent for at least four years before starting university, always receive the full amount. If you live at home and do not rent a second residence, the maximum is EUR 1,250 per year. You can reapply each year for as long as you remain within the permitted study timeframe.

Eligibility

• Nationality: You hold citizenship of an EU or EEA member state.
• Vorarlberg connection: You have been registered (main or secondary address) in Vorarlberg for at least three consecutive years before you apply, and you were part of the Vorarlberg school system before university.
• Study level: You are enrolled full-time in a first degree - Bachelor, Master, doctorate or Diplom - at a university or university of applied sciences in Austria or abroad.
• Age: You started your current programme before turning 45.
• Study progress: You finish within the minimum duration plus one extra semester. In hardship cases, up to two additional semesters can be granted.
• Financial need: Your family income falls below the programme thresholds. If you already receive the Austrian federal student grant (Studienbeihilfe), you cannot receive this grant on top of it.
• Programme changes: You may have switched programmes at most twice, and you must have spent no more than two semesters in any previous programme.

How to apply

Apply online through the Vorarlberg government portal at vorarlberg.at. There is no fixed annual deadline - applications are accepted throughout the academic year.
