SFT-Francophone Transplant Society - SFT Master Scholarships

Benefit

You will receive a one-off grant of 21,000 EUR to fund your own research project in the field of organ or tissue transplantation during your Master’s year. The funds are intended to support your work at a research institute, a hospital or a host institution abroad on topics such as transplant immunology, surgery or clinical transplant medicine. This is a one-off project grant, not a monthly payment. You cannot combine this funding with any other scholarship. The funding is provided by the Société Francophone de Transplantation (SFT), a French-speaking transplantation society, with the support of Chiesi France and Hansa Biopharma.

Eligibility

• Who you are: You are a junior doctor at a French university hospital (an ‘interne des hôpitaux’), which means you are currently undertaking the clinical part of your training.
• Study phase: You are currently in the Master’s phase of your degree programme, not in the PhD or dissertation phase.
• Field: Your project focuses on organ or tissue transplantation, for example in the fields of immunology, surgery or clinical transplant medicine.
• SFT membership: You or your mentor (the supervisor of your project) are an SFT member and have paid your membership fees in full to date.
• Your project: You are carrying out your own research project or undertaking a research placement at an institution abroad.

How to apply

Please send your application by email to the SFT Secretariat. Please attach the application form, a personal statement, a letter of recommendation from your laboratory or department head, a project summary and a funding plan to the email. The deadline for applications is 3 May. A panel of transplantation experts in hepatology, immunology, surgery and pharmacology will assess the applications, and the winner of the prize will be announced at the SFT Annual Congress in December.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is very narrowly defined: only French junior doctors who are working on a transplant project whilst studying for their Master’s degree are eligible to apply, so the pool of eligible candidates is small. If you fit this profile, have a connection to the SFT – either personally or via your mentor – and can present a compelling, original project that is supported by your head of department, your chances are good. A compelling research idea and a strong letter of recommendation are more important than the number of applicants.
