About this scholarship
ANAINF Training Grants
You will receive funding for a one-year research or training phase in the field of neurology. This will enable you to work on a research project (usually as part of a 2 Master’s programme or a one-year research-oriented Master’s programme), complete the final year of your PhD, or undertake a placement in a neurology department abroad. The scholarship is awarded by the ‘Journées de Neurologie de Langue Française’ (JNLF), the ANAINF (the French Association of Neurology Trainees) and several partner organisations. Between 5 and 10 scholarships are awarded each year.
Who can apply
- Career stage: You are a trainee neurologist, either as an ‘intern’ (a doctor undertaking specialist training in neurology) or as a ‘chef de clinique’ (a junior specialist who is still undergoing training).
- Field: You work in neurology or a closely related specialist field, provided that your research project relates to neurology in adults.
- Where you train: You are an intern in France.
- Project: You have a specific research project and can demonstrate that you are personally and wholeheartedly committed to it. This is what the jury values most highly.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted via the joint channel operated jointly by the JNLF and its partner organisations. The deadline is 1 May each year. Three expert reviewers assess each application using the INSERM system, and a joint panel then draws up a ranking of the projects.
How realistic are your chances?
This is a selective funding scheme. Only trainee neurologists in France with a serious research project are eligible to apply, so the pool of applicants is small. If you fit this profile and can demonstrate a genuine commitment to your project, your prospects are good, as between 5 and 10 grants are awarded each year. The selection panel assesses the projects on the basis of their quality, so a well-prepared research plan is crucial.
