Normandy regional grant for health and social care students

You get a monthly grant to help fund your training in a health or social care programme in Normandy. There is no fixed figure. The amount is worked out from your family's or your own income, using the same income bands as France's national student grants (bourses sur critères sociaux). It is paid over the length of your course, up to 10 months per year. For courses that run over several years, you reapply each year. You can be funded for the length of your course plus one extra year in case you repeat, up to a lifetime maximum of 7 years. The money comes from the Région Normandie and is handled by CROUS Normandie, the regional student services office.

Who can apply

• Programme: You are enrolled in a health or social care course at a school approved by the Région Normandie. This covers courses such as nurse (IFSI), nursing assistant (IFAS), care and social support worker (DEAES), midwife, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, educator and social worker qualifications.
• Course length: Your training lasts at least 8 weeks, including any work placements.
• Financial need: Your family's or your own income is low enough to qualify under the national grant bands. This is based on income from two years earlier.
• Age: No age limit. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian signs the application.
• Residence: You do not need to live in Normandy.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply. Non-EU applicants need valid residence and work permits, plus extra documents if they have lived in France for less than 3 years.
• Attendance: You must attend classes and sit your exams. Payment stops after 10 unexcused absences.
• No double funding: You cannot combine this with a secondary-school grant, another ministry's grant, a salary or an apprenticeship contract. Small student jobs under 15 hours a week are allowed.

How to apply

You apply online through messervices.etudiant.gouv.fr by filling in a Dossier Social Étudiant (DSE), the standard student grant application file. You attach the required documents plus the specific form from the CROUS Normandie site, which then reviews your file. Deadlines depend on when your course starts. For a September start you apply by 15 October. Later start dates have later cut-offs, from 30 November through to 31 March.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is aimed at a specific group: students in Normandy-approved health and social care courses who show financial need. It is not a competition for a few places but a needs-based entitlement. If you fit the course list and your income falls within the national bands, you can expect to receive it. Apply by the deadline for your start date and make sure your file is complete.
