Niemi Foundation - Scholarship

Niemi Foundation grant

You will receive a scholarship to carry out economic research in the fields of agriculture or forestry. Most people receive this scholarship whilst working on their doctoral thesis (PhD thesis). The Niemi Foundation (Niemi-säätiö), based in Tampere, awards approximately 400,000 EUR annually and usually supports between 20 and 30 applicants. Funding for other types of academic work is granted only in rare cases.

Who can apply

• Who you are: You are applying as an individual for your own research project, as the head of a research group, or as a research institution funding a project.
• Field of study: Your work is in the economics of agriculture or forestry.
• Level: The scholarships are primarily intended to support doctoral programmes, so that students are generally working towards a doctoral degree.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. The programme focuses on Finnish agriculture and forestry.

How to apply

Applications are accepted once a year via the Foundation’s online funding system. Applications sent by post or email will not be accepted. The application window runs until September and closes on 30 September at 16:00. The Board will make its decision at the end of October, and the result will be displayed in the system by the beginning of December.
