About this scholarship

Alli Paasikivi Foundation research grant

You get 30,000 EUR per year to work full time on your research, for up to 3 years. Of that, up to 2,000 EUR per year can go towards travel, printing, equipment or hiring support staff. The rest is your personal grant. Doctoral candidates at the very start of their doctorate can apply for the full three-year grant. Post-doctoral researchers (those who already hold a doctorate) are funded 1 year at a time. The grant comes from the Alli Paasikivi Foundation (Alli Paasikiven Säätiö), a Finnish foundation in Helsinki that funds research on the social security, well-being and equality of families.

Who can apply

  • Who you are: You are an individual PhD student or postdoctoral researcher. Companies and institutions are not eligible to apply.
  • Degree level: You are writing your doctoral thesis or conducting research following the completion of your PhD. Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes are not eligible for funding.
  • Doctoral proof: As a PhD student, you may submit a certificate from the university stating the date on which you were granted the right to undertake doctoral studies.
  • Topic: Your research contributes to social security, well-being or equality for families. The research area is irrelevant, provided the topic fits within this priority area.
  • Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. Their work should have a connection to Finland. Applications may be submitted in Finnish, Swedish or English.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via the Foundation’s online funding system. The application window opens at the start of the year and usually lasts for around two weeks. The application deadline is 4 February. Decisions are made in April. Successful applicants will be notified personally and their names will be published on the Foundation’s website by the end of May.
