About this award / prize

Leo Pharma Thrombosis and Cancer Award (Prix Guy Meyer - Philippe Girard)

You are receiving a one-off prize of 10,000 EUR for an outstanding publication project on the subject of cancer-related blood clots. These clots block veins and are a common, serious complication in cancer patients. The prize recognises work in the fields of oncology, oncohaematology, cancer surgery and anaesthesia, as well as in basic and clinical research. It is awarded once a year by LEO Pharma France and is now being held for the 16th time.

Who can apply

  • Profession: You are a doctor, pharmacist, biologist or a medical student on a clinical placement (junior doctor).
  • Age: You are under 40.
  • Field: Your project focuses on blood clots associated with cancer.
  • Method: Your project addresses a clearly defined research question and is based on a clearly described methodology.
  • Independence: You carried out the project entirely on your own initiative. It was not commissioned by LEO Pharma.
  • Backing: A senior member of your French research team supports your proposed timetable for submission.
  • Nationality: All nationalities can apply.

How to apply

Please submit your application by email or post. You will need to provide a covering letter, your CV, details of any existing funding for the project, the planned publication (specifying the target journal), and the completed application form. The deadline for applications is 30 April. A panel of experts in oncology, haemostasis, haematology and vascular medicine will select the winner within three months of the deadline. The prize will be awarded at the JEICT conference.

How realistic are your chances?

This award has very narrow criteria. It is aimed at a specific area of research (cancer-related blood clots), at researchers under the age of 40, and at projects led by a French research team. As a result, the pool of applicants remains small. If your work clearly fits into this niche and demonstrates a convincing, original approach, your prospects are good. Only one prize is awarded, and the jury may decide not to award the prize if the projects do not meet the requirements.
