About this scholarship
City of Clermont-Ferrand international mobility scholarship
You will receive a monthly grant to help fund your studies or work placement abroad. This grant is in addition to any other funding you are already receiving, so it is not a full scholarship. The amount is a fixed monthly sum, which is always the same regardless of the destination country. The exact amount will not be disclosed in advance. Each selected student will be informed in writing of the amount once the decision has been made. The funding is provided by the City of Clermont-Ferrand. The grant is aimed at students enrolled at a university or a ‘Grande École’ (a selective French higher education institution) in the Clermont-Ferrand area.
Who can apply
- Where you study: You are enrolled at a higher education institution in the Clermont-Ferrand area. Students at UCA’s branch campuses in other parts of Auvergne are not eligible to apply.
- Where you go: Your stay abroad will take place in a city with which Clermont-Ferrand has a twinning arrangement or has signed a cooperation agreement.
- Type of stay: You are taking part in a study exchange or a compulsory work placement that forms an integral part of your degree programme and lasts for at least one month. Breaks are not taken into account.
- Financial need: Your family income index (quotient familial, calculated by the local authority based on your proof of income) is 1,200 EUR or less. For amounts between 1,201 and 1,500 EUR, the committee will decide on a case-by-case basis, depending on the funds available.
- Field and nationality: Open to all disciplines and all nationalities.
- Once only: You may only receive this grant once during your studies. You are not eligible to apply if you have previously received a ‘Villes Jumelles’ grant from Clermont-Ferrand or a mobility grant.
How to apply
Obtain the application form from your university’s International Relations Office (at UCA, you can also download it). Complete it, attach proof of your income, and hand it in there. The office will forward it to the city. There are two rounds. The deadline is 17 April 2026 for placements starting before 15 July 2026, and 18 September 2026 for work placements between 15 July and 31 December 2026.
How realistic are your chances?
This grant is very narrowly defined. You must be studying in the Clermont-Ferrand area, be travelling to one of the city’s twin towns, and meet the income threshold, which means that the number of people eligible for the grant is small. If you clearly meet these conditions and can provide proof of your family’s income, your chances are good. However, the award of grants depends on the funds available each year; therefore, given the limited budget, it is advisable to apply early.
