About this scholarship
Benefit
You will receive 300 EUR per month if you do not live with your family, or 150 EUR per month if you do live with your family. The grant amounts to 3 years and covers your entire first cycle of study (the Licence, the French Bachelor’s degree). It is awarded in addition to the CROUS grant, the standard state study grant in France, meaning that the total amount can be up to 750 EUR per month. Over three years, this amounts to around 27,000 EUR. The scholarship is funded by private donors to the University of Strasbourg Foundation, so that students in financial need can focus on their studies rather than having to take on a part-time job.
Eligibility
- Study level: You have just passed the Baccalaureat (the French equivalent of the A-levels) and are enrolling on a Bachelor’s degree programme.
- University: You enrol at the University of Strasbourg, at one of its faculties, colleges or institutes.
- Grades: You passed your Abitur with distinction, i.e. with the grade ‘Mention Bien’ (good) or ‘Mention Très Bien’ (very good).
- Financial need: You are unable to finance your studies entirely from your own resources.
- Plans: You have a clear plan for your studies and your career.
- Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
- Field of study: Open to all subjects.
How to apply
You apply to the Foundation. The application period usually begins in September, and the deadline for applications is 31 May. The Foundation shortlists candidates based on social and academic criteria. If you successfully pass this stage, you will have a one-to-one interview with a panel of experts.
How realistic are your chances?
The award of this grant is strictly regulated: you must be a recent A-level graduate with honours, enrol at the University of Strasbourg and be in genuine financial need. The foundation reports receiving 150 applications for around 30 places per year, so the selection process is rigorous. If you clearly meet the criteria regarding grades and financial hardship and present a well-thought-out study plan at the interview, your prospects are good.
