Fondation FondaMental - Laboratoire Lilly Master grant

This grant of 4,000 EUR is intended to cover the scholarship for a 6-month Master’s research placement 2 in the field of psychiatry. The funds are paid to the research laboratory hosting the student, not directly to the student. It supports research into severe mental illnesses and neurodevelopmental disorders, such as depression, bipolar disorder, suicidal behaviour, schizophrenia and autism. Up to 3 scholarships are awarded each year. The Fondation FondaMental runs the programme in France in partnership with Eli Lilly (Laboratoire Lilly).

Who can apply

The applicant is the research laboratory, not the student. The laboratory only takes the student on once the funding has been approved. So, if you are a student, you will receive this funding via a supervisor who submits the application on your behalf.

• Who applies: You are the head of a research laboratory which will be taking on and supervising an intern on the 2 Master’s programme.
• Network membership: You or your laboratory must already be a member of the FondaMental Alliance – a network of researchers and clinicians in the field of psychiatry – before you can apply.
• Research topic: Your project studies severe psychiatric or neurodevelopmental disorders and fits one of three areas: causes and mechanisms of disease; epidemiology and health economics; or clinical and therapeutic innovation, such as diagnostic tools or medical devices.
• The intern: The student may be a doctor, biologist, psychologist or similar. You do not need to have selected the student’s role at the time of application.
• One entry each: Only one application may be submitted per project and per supervisor.
• No double funding: This grant cannot be combined with funding for a research year (année recherche).
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via your FondaMental Alliance account on the Foundation’s website. The application deadline is 15 June 2026 at 23:59; the results will be announced in September 2026. A selection panel assesses each project in terms of its scientific quality, technical feasibility, the quality of supervision and the supervisor’s publication record. The final decision is made by the Foundation’s Executive Board.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is cut narrowly. Your lab must already belong to the FondaMental Alliance, and your project must fit a specific set of psychiatric and neurodevelopmental research areas. That keeps the pool of eligible applicants small. With up to 3 grants per year, competition within that group is still real, and a strong, innovative project with a well-published supervisor stands out. If you clearly meet the criteria and submit a well-argued proposal, your prospects are solid.
