About this scholarship

What the John A. Lee award gives you

You will receive a reduction in tuition fees of up to 20% of your total fees (usually around 830 EUR) for the entire duration of your studies, but for a maximum of 24 months. In rare cases, the reduction may exceed 20%. The amount will not be paid out to you, but will be deducted directly from your termly fee invoice. The funding comes from a graduate school in Paris specialising in international relations and diplomacy. It is named after one of the school’s co-founders, who taught in France for many years.

Who can apply

  • Where you study: You are enrolled at this graduate school in Paris.
  • Field: You are studying International Relations, Diplomacy or a related political science subject.
  • Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, whether from the USA or from other countries.
  • Money you need: You can demonstrate that you are in genuine financial hardship. Where applicants are equally qualified, the committee will give priority to those who have no other means of funding.
  • Grades: You have achieved excellent academic results. To retain the scholarship, you must achieve a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.2 each semester.

How to apply

You apply for the scholarship at the same time as you apply for admission to the university. Tick the box to indicate that you wish to be considered for the scholarship, and enclose a letter explaining how you intend to finance your studies and where you are short of funds. List any loans, savings and any support you receive from third parties. There is no set deadline, and the committee will reply within four weeks.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding is very narrowly defined. You must already be enrolled at a specific graduate school in Paris and demonstrate a genuine financial need; consequently, the pool of eligible applicants is small. If you meet these criteria, have good grades and can demonstrate why you are unable to fund your studies by other means, your chances are good. Clear, honest evidence of your financial situation is more important than elaborate documentation.
