About this scholarship

Michard Scholarship (Bourse Michard)

You will receive financial support for a study visit, a dual degree programme or an internship abroad – in a country where the working language is not French. There is no fixed amount. The amount is calculated individually for each student, depending on the number of applicants, your actual costs, your family’s financial situation, your personal statement and any other funding you are already receiving. Since 2025, there has been one application round per year, meaning that the individual grants may be higher. The grant is awarded by ‘Mines Alès Alumni’, the alumni association of IMT Mines Alès. It was established in the 1990s from a bequest by Georges Michard, a graduate of the 1922. The aim is to help you return with a sound command of spoken and written English.

Who can apply

  • Where you study: You are enrolled at IMT Mines Alès (École des Mines d’Alès) this year.
  • Your plan abroad: You are undertaking one or two semesters, a dual degree programme or a work placement in a country where the host university or host organisation does not operate in French. As 2024, this also includes European destinations. Destinations to date include the USA, Australia, Brazil, Japan, Korea, Canada, India, Ireland, Spain, Sweden and the UK.
  • Membership: You are a paying member of ‘Mines Alès Alumni’.
  • First time: You have not yet received this scholarship.
  • Financial need: Your family’s income is taken into account.
  • Field of study: Any department can apply. There is no minimum grade or minimum ranking.

How to apply

Please email your complete application to the Alumni Association. The 2025 round ran from 3 to 30 March, and the next round is expected to take place in early 2027. All applications will be reviewed, a shortlist drawn up, and a committee will then decide who receives which amount of funding.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is very narrowly defined. Only students at IMT Mines Alès who pay their alumni contribution and are going to a non-French-speaking country are eligible to apply – so the pool of applicants is small. If you clearly meet these criteria, write a convincing personal statement and can demonstrate a genuine need, your chances are good. As the amount of the scholarship depends on the number of applicants, a well-prepared application is an advantage for the single annual award round.
