About this scholarship
What you get
You will receive a grant from IULM University in Milan to cover travel and living costs for a research trip abroad whilst writing your Master’s thesis. There is no fixed amount. The selection committee will determine the amount of the grant on a case-by-case basis, based on your project budget and the funds available. The total amount available for this call for applications is 15,000 EUR and will be divided amongst the selected students. You will receive the grant in two equal instalments: one upon approval of the grant and one after completion and submission of your report. The grant covers travel and living expenses abroad. It does not cover taxi fares or car hire, books, telephone bills or costs for accompanying persons, including interpreters.
Who can apply
- University: You are enrolled at IULM University in Milan.
- Degree level: You are enrolled on a two-year Master’s programme and are either in your second year or in your first repeat year (the year following the standard completion of your degree).
- Thesis: You have already submitted the title of your final thesis, and the university has approved it. Without this information, your application cannot be considered.
- Research abroad: A research centre or research institution abroad has accepted you for a stay that fits in with your project.
- Financial need: You can provide evidence that you need financial support to cover travel and living costs whilst abroad.
- Field of study: Any master’s degree programme at IULM, for example in the fields of communication, media, marketing, languages, translation, tourism, art, fashion or film.
- Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, provided they are enrolled at IULM.
- Other funding: You are not receiving either a regional scholarship or any other form of private funding for the same year.
How to apply
Please submit your application to the University’s Office for Tuition Fees, Financial Aid and Scholarships by 5 May 2026. Please enclose three documents: your thesis proposal (including a timeline, details of the host institution and a cost estimate), a letter of support from your supervisor, and a confirmation of admission from the host institution abroad. A committee will review the applications, and you will be notified of the outcome by email from the beginning of June.
How realistic are your chances?
This scholarship is very selective. You must already be studying at IULM, be in the correct year of your Master’s programme, have an approved topic for your dissertation, and have a prospective host institution abroad. This leaves only a small group of applicants. If you meet these requirements and submit a well-thought-out project proposal accompanied by a strong letter of recommendation from your supervisor, your chances are good. The amount of the scholarship depends on the quality of your proposal and is not awarded purely on a competitive basis for a single prize.
