About this scholarship

What the BilbaoArte production grant gives you

You get 1,350 EUR gross per month for 10 months, a total of 13,500 EUR, plus your own temporary studio at the BilbaoArte centre in Bilbao. You also get access to its production workshops: digital image and photography, MediaLab, sculpture, and screen-printing and printmaking. Staff in each workshop advise you. If space allows, you can live for free in one of the foundation's shared flats for a 100 EUR deposit. Selected artists may later get a solo show at the foundation's URIBITARTE40 gallery, with extra fees and a production budget. BilbaoArte is an art-production centre in Bilbao, in the Basque Country in Spain, that supports professional artists. It awards up to 11 grants.

Who can apply

  • Who it is for: Professional visual artists who can show a real track record. You can apply alone or as a group. In a group, every member must meet the conditions.
  • Field: Any visual-art discipline.
  • Nationality and background: Anyone can apply, with no limits by nationality, origin, age, sex or personal situation.
  • Your project: Your plan must make continuous use of the centre's workshops (digital image, MediaLab, sculpture, or screen-printing and printmaking).
  • Where you must be: You must live in the Bilbao area during the grant and be present for at least 75% of working days.
  • No other funding at the same time: You cannot hold another production grant or residency while you hold this one.
  • Recent recipients: You cannot apply if you received a BilbaoArte grant in any of the last 5 rounds.
  • Reserved places: One grant is reserved for artists over 50 (Ayuda Silver), and one for fine-arts students at the University of the Basque Country (Ayuda EHU).
  • Self-employed status: The money is paid as professional income, so you must register as self-employed (autonomo) in the Spanish social-security system before the grant starts.

How to apply

You apply by email to the foundation. Send an application form and a project dossier as two PDF files. An external jury chooses the projects, and its decision is final. Applications open in spring each year. The 2026-27 round closed on 10 May 2026, so the next round is expected in spring 2027.

How realistic are your chances?

With up to 11 grants shared across all visual-art disciplines and open to any nationality, the field is wide, so competition is real. What decides it is a strong artistic record and a project that genuinely uses the centre's workshops, judged by an outside jury. If you can commit to living in Bilbao and being present most working days, and you make a clear, well-documented case, your prospects are solid.
