What Doctorado Becas Chile covers

You get full funding for a PhD abroad in any field, for up to 4 years (48 months). Chile's national research agency ANID pays your tuition and enrolment fees in full. It adds a monthly living allowance that varies by your destination country and city. You also receive:

• A one-off arrival grant of about EUR 450 (USD 500).
• A yearly book and materials allowance of about EUR 275 (USD 300).
• A yearly health-insurance allowance of about EUR 720 (USD 800).
• A one-off return grant of about EUR 450 (USD 500) when you go back to Chile.

Return flights are covered for you and, if applicable, for your spouse or partner and children under 18. Visa fees for the family are paid, and there is a family top-up to the living allowance. If you need it, ANID funds a language course (English, German or French). If you are pregnant, you can get up to 6 extra months of support.

Who can apply

• Nationality: You are a Chilean citizen, or a foreigner with valid permanent residence in Chile.
• Degree: You hold a Chilean Licenciatura (at least 8 semesters) or Titulo Profesional (at least 10 semesters), or an equivalent foreign degree of at least 3 years (bachelor or diploma).
• Grades: You have a grade average of at least 5.0 on the Chilean 1-7 scale, or you graduated in the top 30% of your class.
• Admission: You are admitted to a PhD abroad, or already enrolled in one.
• Where you study: The PhD must be full-time and in person abroad. It cannot be in Chile, part-time or online.
• Field of study: All fields can apply. Most awards go to priority areas: public security and cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, climate change, and quantum technologies.
• No double funding: You have not already held a Beca Chile or ANID grant for an equal or higher degree.

How to apply

You apply fully online through ANID's application system at spl.anid.cl. You fill in your CV and application form and upload the required documents as PDFs, in Spanish or English. You also arrange two confidential reference letters, which must arrive before the deadline. The 2026 round runs from 15 April to 19 May 2026 (13:00 Chile time), with results in July 2026. Applications are scored on your academic record, your study goals and planned contribution to Chile, and the quality of your host university.

How realistic are your chances?

This is a competitive national award. The 2026 round funds at most 50 scholarships, and around 70% go to the priority research areas. If your PhD falls in one of those fields, sits at a highly ranked university and you clearly meet the grade bar, your prospects are solid. A strong, well-argued plan to contribute back to Chile matters as much as your marks. Applicants outside the priority areas compete for a much smaller share of places.
